Of the motives behind Cinna's artificial Flames.
One question I had written for group discussion after reflecting on the Hunger Games was whether Cinna considered Katniss's personality when he constructed her costumes and, in a sense, reputation. Did he see a flame in her heart when she protected Primrose at the Reaping? As fire destroys much, but can rescue life, as well as protect, warm and soothe it, did the designers, or, for that matter, the Gamemakers, look to Katniss as she was depicted in the "blazing" gowns? And if she was indeed more like a tongue of pure fire, was it that symbolization that caused Rue to, in essence, give to Katniss what had been given to Prim, in the terms of a life both in itself and in the light of something to live for? If not, what else drew Rue, and, I suppose, Peeta, to love and appreciate Katniss as all sources of heat are adored in frigid times?
